Rain Apologizes to Hearing-Impaired Fan: What Happened?
Encouraged Dancing During Taipei Tour in Taiwan
Apologized After Learning About Hearing Impairment
Singer Rain (44, real name Jung Jihoon) has issued an official apology for a discourtesy committed toward a hearing-impaired fan.
According to a report by The Independent on the 23rd (local time), Rain encouraged the audience to sing and dance during his "Still Raining: Encore" tour performance at Taipei Arena in Taiwan on the 17th. During the show, he noticed a female fan, referred to as A, who was filming him with her phone instead of dancing.
At the time, Rain asked A in Korean, "Why aren't you dancing?" as she continued to film the performance from her seat. This comment was translated into Chinese by an on-site interpreter. A, seemingly flustered, gestured toward her ear and continued filming with a smile, after which Rain requested a more enthusiastic response from the audience before proceeding with the performance.
A, who uses the nickname "Qiqi," explained the situation on her Instagram on the 19th, two days after the concert, tagging Rain in her post. She wrote, "I couldn't understand what Rain and the interpreter were saying, and when Rain made an 'up up' gesture with his hand, I misunderstood it as asking me to sing louder, not to dance."
She added, "Rain stomped his foot and asked me to try again. In hindsight, I wish I had communicated using sign language. I was worried that I might be misunderstood as a disobedient fan."
Upon learning of this, Rain personally left an apology comment in Chinese on the post on the 20th. He wrote, "First of all, I'm truly sorry for not knowing that you couldn't hear. I lacked consideration and did not think deeply enough."
Rain also congratulated the fan, whose birthday was on the 19th, saying, "Although there was a small incident, it became a beautiful memory for us. This experience has made me realize the importance of being more thoughtful in every aspect during future performances."
