Supreme Patriarch Seongpa of the Jogye Order: "Even Amid Cold Winds and Snowstorms, Trees Prepare for Spring"
A Message of Hope and Perseverance for the New Year
Supreme Patriarch Seongpa of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism delivered a message of hope and perseverance ahead of the New Year.
In his New Year's Dharma message for the Year of Byeongo (Byeongo Year) 2026, announced on December 26, Seongpa stated, "Even when cold winds blow and snowstorms rage, the trees and plants of Yeongchuksan prepare for the vibrant arrival of spring." He continued, "Every branch stripped of its leaves is filled with the passion to welcome the new spring, and barley sprouts curled up on the frozen ground withstand the cold winds, reminiscent of the resolve of a practicing monk."
He went on to emphasize the importance of practice and compassion, saying, "If we pray for the happiness of all beings with a mind that is inherently pure and endowed with all virtues, as realized through practice, then this world will become a pure land, crises will turn into opportunities, and even disease and war will naturally disappear."
