However, this restock will be limited to the remaining inventory, and despite strong sales, there are reportedly no plans for additional production at this time.
According to industry sources on December 16, Samsung Electronics will begin accepting purchase requests for the Galaxy Z Tripfold through Samsung.com at 10 a.m. on the 17th. Buyers can either pick up the device at designated Samsung offline stores on the same day or opt for delivery, in which case the product will arrive within two to three days.
The Tripfold sold out at all major offline stores, including Samsung Gangnam and Hongdae, immediately after opening on its launch day, December 12. Online, the entire stock was depleted in about five minutes after sales began, demonstrating high consumer interest. Priced at 3,590,400 won, the device is now being resold on secondhand platforms for around 4 million won due to the shortage of supply.
Industry insiders believe that the "double-folding" form factor, introduced by Samsung Electronics for the first time, piqued consumer curiosity and led to higher-than-expected demand. However, as the Tripfold is a symbolic product emphasizing technological prowess, Samsung reportedly limited the initial release to about 3,000 to 4,000 units.
The issue now is additional inventory. According to industry sources, the restock on the 17th will also be limited to the remaining stock, and despite the strong sales momentum, there are still no plans to ramp up production or supply. This is because the product's high manufacturing and repair costs make it difficult to expand production without significantly impacting profitability.
The Tripfold's advanced hinge structure results in high manufacturing costs, yet the retail price was set in the mid-3 million won range. Considering that the "Galaxy Z Fold 7," which folds once, launched at 2.37 million won, there was speculation that the Tripfold might be priced close to 4 million won. However, Samsung chose not to set the price much higher than this, resulting in a lower profit margin.
If Samsung were to proceed with additional production, there is a possibility of backlash from early customers who purchased the device for its exclusivity. Since the product is positioned as a "symbolic" and limited-edition item, significantly increasing supply could undermine its premium strategy.
Another obstacle is the high repair costs. Due to expensive repairs, the Tripfold is not eligible for Samsung Care Plus, the company's insurance service.
