Korea Arts & Culture Education Service to Hold Regional Arts & Culture Education Forum on December 18-19
At Seoul Arts & Culture Education Center in Yongsan
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service announced on December 11 that the "2025 Regional Arts & Culture Education Forum" will be held at the Seoul Arts & Culture Education Center in Yongsan from December 18 to 19. This event aims to comprehensively reflect on the achievements of 20 years of regional arts and culture education since the enactment of the "Arts & Culture Education Support Act" in 2005 and to explore future strategies.
On December 18, the "2025 Regional Arts & Culture Education Performance Forum" will take place, focusing on the achievements of the 17 metropolitan regional arts and culture education support centers (metropolitan centers). Under the theme "Achievements and Future Directions of Regional Arts & Culture Education," the forum will examine three main pillars to explore the structural changes in regional arts and culture education. The first pillar, "Strengthening Foundations," involves refining and advancing the delivery system, operational structure, and capacity of key stakeholders to solidify the regional base. The second, "Community Integration," focuses on designing education that meets actual needs by reflecting the living environment and demand of each region. The third, "Collaboration and Expansion," addresses the diversification of educational targets, spaces, and programs through strategic partnerships with other sectors and institutions.
Each metropolitan center will present representative projects that reflect the unique policy environments and conditions of their regions, and will provide detailed explanations of how they have served as mediators and platforms for spreading achievements by connecting the policies and fieldwork of the 17 metropolitan cities and provinces.
In the subsequent panel discussion, participants will broadly discuss the role of regional arts and culture education amid changing policy environments, the expanding functions of metropolitan centers, the potential for expanding the cooperative structure among central, metropolitan, and local levels, and strategies for sustaining the regional arts and culture education ecosystem. The discussion will also address the mid- to long-term direction for region-led arts and culture education.
On December 19, the "2025 Community-Based Arts & Culture Education Support Project 'Gagahoho (家加好好)' Performance Sharing Session," newly launched this year, will be held. Local cultural foundations from across the country will share their experiences of operating arts and culture education programs for various types of families.
"Gagahoho (家加好好)" means "When families come together, there is nothing better-the sound of laughter fills the air." This project starts from the family, the smallest unit of society, and has worked to restore and expand relationships through art by engaging with diverse families throughout the community.
This performance sharing session, under the theme "Connecting through Family, Community, and Art-Our Small Connections Create Gagahoho," will bring together representatives from 42 local cultural foundations and operating organizations, the Family Support Advisory Group, and family center officials to reflect on the year’s journey and achievements.
Within the venue, keywords and posters highlighting the achievements of the projects operated by the 42 local cultural foundations will be exhibited, allowing participants to easily review and exchange experiences from different regions.
An official from the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service stated, "Over the past 20 years, regional arts and culture education policy has been implemented in the field and has evolved into a region-led system. Going forward, it is time to expand autonomous policy models that reflect the characteristics and challenges of each region, building on this foundation. We hope this forum will serve as a platform for concrete discussions on the direction of the next decade with the various stakeholders who have led regional arts and culture education."
