Yangju City Secures Additional 16.3 Billion Won in 2026 National Funding... Green Light for Key Projects
Yangju Secures 10 Billion Won for Dobongsan?Okjeong Railway and 5.1 Billion Won for Gyeongwon Line Shuttle Trains
City Expects Major Improvements in Transportation
On December 4, Yangju City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it had secured an additional 16.3 billion won (across five projects) in national funding from the 2026 national budget, which was passed at the National Assembly plenary session.
According to the city, the main projects reflected in the 2026 national budget include: 10 billion won (ongoing) for the Dobongsan-Okjeong metropolitan railway; 5.1 billion won (new) for facility improvements to operate shuttle trains on the Gyeongwon Line (Yangju~Dongducheon~Yeoncheon); 1 billion won (new) for the construction of the Yangju AI Transformation (AX)-based Knit Dyeing Autonomous Manufacturing Center for Industry-Generation Integration; 100 million won (new) for streetscape improvements along Yangju Peace Road; and 130 million won (new) for the expansion of the Yangju Police Station in northern Gyeonggi Province, totaling 16.3 billion won across five projects.
To secure this increase in national funding, the city, led by its Seoul office, has continuously explained the necessity of the budget increase to relevant organizations such as the National Assembly's standing and budget committees, working closely with local National Assembly members' offices.
Among the major projects with increased funding, the city secured 5.1 billion won for facility improvements to operate shuttle trains on the Gyeongwon Line (Yangju~Dongducheon~Yeoncheon). This is expected to significantly improve the long train intervals of 20 to 40 minutes currently seen on this section of the line.
In addition, by securing an additional 10 billion won for the construction of the Dobongsan-Okjeong metropolitan railway (with a total of 46.6 billion won in national funding for 2026), the city will be able to ensure smooth progress toward the railway's timely opening in 2027.
Furthermore, the AI Transformation (AX)-based Knit Dyeing Autonomous Manufacturing Center, which will be established at the Korea Textile Development Institute in Yangju, is expected to develop an intelligent standard model for the knit dyeing process based on AI and digital technology, as well as to demonstrate and disseminate this model in response to on-site demand.
A Yangju City official stated, "We expect that this increase in national funding will help improve local transportation accessibility and strengthen the foundation of the textile industry," adding, "We will continue to do our best to secure national funding to discover future growth engines."
