According to the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency on December 4, the suspect, a man in his 20s identified as A, purchased a weapon at a mart near a motel in Masanhwoin District, Changwon City, at around 2:43 p.m. the previous day. He then went directly to the motel, the scene of the crime.
On the day of the incident, four middle school students-B and C (female), and D and E (male)-were spending time together when B, after receiving a message from A, went to the motel with C. It was initially reported that only A, B, and later D and E were present at the scene, but police investigations revealed that C had been with B and the others from the beginning. B and C met A at the motel entrance at 4:24 p.m. and went up to the room together.
Police are investigating how D and E, who were stabbed along with B by A in the motel, entered the premises. While the motel's main entrance is equipped with a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera, there is no CCTV at the back entrance, which D and E used to enter.
At the time of the incident, B called 112 (the emergency number) but did not provide specific details, instead allowing the situation to be heard over the phone. Hearing shouting and someone yelling "Don't do it," police determined it was an emergency and requested joint response from the Changwon Fire Department. Subsequently, C also called the police and provided the motel's location.

All four were transported to the hospital, but A, B, and D died, while E sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment.
According to police, A and B had first met about two weeks earlier through an open chat room on a social networking service (SNS), and had met once before. Afterward, A expressed interest in B and continued to contact her, inviting her to the motel on the day of the incident. When B arrived with C, A asked C to step outside for a moment, so C waited outside the door. After hearing a loud thud from the room, C became anxious and contacted D and E for help. A later opened the door and let C and the others in, and after a dispute broke out, committed the attack.
