The Practical Problem Research Group at Mokpo National University announced on December 2 that it had achieved the remarkable feat of winning the Grand Prize, Excellence Award, Merit Award, and Encouragement Award at the "2025 X-Corps Plus Festival," hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT.
The "2025 X-Corps Plus Festival" is a research achievement competition organized as part of the "Field-Linked Future Talent Development Support Project." The event was held on November 26 at the Westin Josun Busan Hotel to share research results from practical problem research teams nationwide and to recognize outstanding projects.

View original imageThis year, 36 teams that passed the first round of evaluation out of 170 teams from nine universities competed in the finals. Mokpo National University's Practical Problem Research Group advanced four teams to the finals through an internal final achievement presentation, with one team each winning the Grand Prize, Excellence Award, Merit Award, and Encouragement Award.
The Grand Prize was awarded to the Plastic Working Team from the Department of Advanced Materials Engineering, led by Heo Hyunjun and four other members, under the guidance of Professor Lee Sunghui.
The SDLAB Team (Shinwoo Park and four others from the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, supervised by Professor Song Changyong) received the Excellence Award; the Quantum Dot Team (Hojun Kang and three others from the Department of Semiconductor Applied Physics, supervised by Professor Song Junghoon) received the Merit Award; and the Leisure Boat Design Project Lab Team (Seunghyun Song and three others from the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, supervised by Professor Choi Jungkyu) received the Encouragement Award.
Heo Hyunjun, leader of the Plastic Working Team, stated, "Our research on manufacturing aluminum pipes for eco-friendly automotive heat exchangers was made possible thanks to the cooperation of our team members and the support of our supervising professor. We will continue to focus on developing technologies that can contribute to solving problems in the industrial field."

Since 2022, Mokpo National University has been operating the "East-West Convergence Smart Technology Practical Problem Research Group" consortium together with Pusan National University, Pukyong National University, and Kunsan National University, focusing on nurturing talent to solve practical problems in regionally specialized fields such as eco-friendly transportation systems, next-generation materials, and smart/green energy.
