EU Environmental Regulations Shaking K-Beauty... Ministry of SMEs and Startups to Provide Proactive Support
PPWR to Take Effect Next August... Direct Impact on Consumer Goods Companies
"Strengthening Information Provision and Support for Regulations"
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on December 3 that it held the "EU Environmental Regulation Response Seminar" at Lotte Hotel World in Songpa-gu, Seoul.
This seminar was organized as a follow-up to the "Measures to Enhance and Expand K-Beauty Export Performance" announced on November 27. It aimed to provide export-oriented small and medium-sized enterprises with information on EU environmental regulations.
The EU's environmental regulation, the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which will be fully implemented from August next year, imposes restrictions on excessive packaging and mandates reuse obligations for all product packaging sold or imported within the EU. It regulates the entire lifecycle from production to recycling and reuse.
Since the regulation is expected to have a significant impact on consumer goods with individually packaged items such as K-Beauty products, exporters of consumer goods need to secure information on the regulation and proactively respond by selecting raw materials, designing packaging, and improving processes.
This seminar featured practical sessions, including strategies for responding to PPWR (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation) and case studies by item and sector, strategies for responding to the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), and measures to comply with PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) regulations. One-on-one consultations with experts on each regulation were also provided during the seminar to enhance the effectiveness of the training.
