Choi Byunghun, former Director of the School Policy Bureau at the Gyeongnam Office of Education, has announced his candidacy for next year's Gyeongnam Superintendent of Education election.
On December 1, Choi held a press conference in the provincial council's briefing room, stating, "I am here to open a new future for education in Gyeongnam," explaining the background for his candidacy.
He emphasized, "We are living in an era where education also needs a philosophy," adding, "Philosophy is about becoming the master of one's own life. Through contemplation, we can rediscover the value of education, and fostering both emotional and intellectual growth, as well as character and creativity, should be the direction for the future of Gyeongnam education."

View original imageHe announced his key pledges, saying, "I am running in the Gyeongnam Superintendent of Education election to move beyond education that simply accumulates knowledge, towards education that cultivates intellect and instills the values of life, while also leading creative education."
His main pledges include: ▲ Establishing a system of accountability for basic academic achievement and restoring intellectual education ▲ Innovating aesthetic and emotional education ▲ Restoring teachers' authority and strengthening community citizenship education ▲ Building an artificial intelligence (AI) and digital-based creative education system ▲ Revitalizing small schools in rural, mountain, and fishing villages and establishing a balanced regional education system.
He went on to point out the current issues facing education in Gyeongnam, such as the decline in basic academic achievement, weakening of teachers' authority, widening educational disparities in rural, mountain, and fishing villages, insufficient preparation for future education, and the lack of emotional and character education.
He pledged, "I will rebuild education in Gyeongnam based on philosophy, contemplation, emotion, and creativity."

Choi also stated, "Education in Gyeongnam now needs a new transformation," adding, "Education that fosters contemplative, emotionally intelligent, and creative students will determine the future of Gyeongnam education."
