View original imageOn November 27, LG Uplus and KB Kookmin Bank announced that they have joined forces to utilize the artificial intelligence (AI) call app 'ixi-O' to proactively detect voice phishing and prevent financial damage.
The two companies signed the 'Agreement on Preventing Voice Phishing Damage Using AI Technology' the previous day at the KB Kookmin Bank headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul. The signing ceremony was attended by key executives from both companies, including Hong Beomsik, CEO of LG Uplus, and Lee Hwanju, President of KB Kookmin Bank.
This agreement was established to enable collaboration between a telecommunications company and a financial institution in order to reduce voice phishing crimes that threaten the daily lives of the public and to proactively respond to new types of fraud. The two companies plan to link suspicious phishing patterns detected by ixi-O with abnormal transaction data from the financial sector to build a real-time phishing attempt detection and early response system. In addition, in cases where actual damage is suspected, they will consider working with the National Police Agency to minimize the spread of harm. LG Uplus previously signed a data-sharing agreement on phishing-related information with the National Police Agency in August.
LG Uplus will provide KB Kookmin Bank with suspicious data obtained through ixi-O's real-time voice phishing detection, analysis of malicious app installations, and analysis of access to risky URLs. The company also plans to monitor for additional abnormal activities and support prompt responses to prevent customers from suffering financial losses.
KB Kookmin Bank will immediately monitor information on customers suspected of being victims, received from LG Uplus, by linking it to its own financial protection system, and will implement protective measures such as freezing accounts if voice phishing is suspected. With this agreement, customers of KB Kookmin Bank's budget mobile brand, 'KB Liiv Mobile,' will also be able to use the ixi-O service.
The two companies plan to form a joint consultative body to expand cooperation, including sharing information on new phishing techniques and damage cases, establishing real-time response processes, and launching nationwide financial security campaigns.
