Prosecutors Seek 8-Month Prison Sentence for Kim Bonghyun on Charges of Providing Illegal Political Funds
Prosecutors have requested a prison sentence for Kim Bonghyun, former chairman of Star Mobility, who was brought to trial on charges of providing illegal political funds to former Democratic Party lawmaker Ki Dongmin and others.
On November 26, during the final hearing at the Seoul Southern District Court before Judge Seo Youngwoo of Criminal Division 12, prosecutors asked the court to sentence both former chairman Kim and Lee Kangse, former CEO of Star Mobility, to eight months in prison each on charges of violating the Political Funds Act.
They are accused of delivering a total of approximately 160 million won in cash and valuables in 2016 to former lawmaker Ki, Democratic Party lawmaker Lee Sujin, former Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Kim Youngchun, and Kim, a former National Assembly preliminary candidate.
Former lawmaker Ki, lawmaker Lee, former minister Kim, and Kim were acquitted in the first trial in September. At the time, the court stated, "It is difficult to consider the testimony and notebook of Kim Bonghyun, which were presented as key evidence by the prosecution, as credible."
