"Expanding the Latin American Smart Home Ecosystem"
On November 26, Samsung Electronics announced that its AI-powered home appliances recorded a cumulative sales growth of approximately 40% in the Latin American market from January to October this year, compared to the same period last year.
In particular, washing machine sales increased by about 80% year-on-year. Samsung Electronics explained that the strong performance of the "Bespoke AI Combo" washer-dryer, which combines a washer and dryer in one unit, significantly contributed to the sales growth.
Samsung Electronics has actively targeted the rapidly growing Latin American AI home market by expanding its lineup of AI appliances tailored to local needs and establishing spaces where consumers can directly experience AI appliances.
The company introduced its latest range of appliances equipped with advanced AI features, including the "Family Hub" refrigerator, "Bespoke AI WindFree Air Conditioner," and "Bespoke AI Combo" washer-dryer. In addition, Samsung Electronics is expanding the Latin American AI home ecosystem by broadening its offerings to include mid-range and affordable appliances such as the TMF (Top-Mount Freezer) refrigerator, which is popular in Latin America, and fully automatic washing machines.
Samsung Electronics' AI appliances are especially well received by local consumers who are sensitive to energy costs, as they can monitor appliance power consumption and reduce electricity usage through SmartThings. The number of users utilizing SmartThings' AI-based energy-saving features continues to rise.
In September, to further expand the AI home market in Latin America, Samsung Electronics opened the experiential showroom "Casa Samsung" in Guatemala. Visitors can experience the convenience of AI appliances connected via SmartThings in a home-like setting, including voice control and automation features based on user routines. Earlier, in July, Samsung Electronics opened the region's first business-to-business (B2B) experiential space, the "Business Experience Studio (BES)," in Panama, offering companies, public institutions, and business partners the opportunity to experience AI solutions firsthand.
This expanded presence has also been recognized by international media. In October, Samsung Electronics ranked first in the "Smart Home" category of "Mexico's Most Preferred Brands," jointly announced by TIME magazine and Statista. The company also secured the top spot in a total of six categories, including refrigerators, smartphones, TVs, wearables, and headphones.
Samsung Electronics plans to further strengthen its influence in the Latin American market going forward. According to global market research firm Statista, the Latin American smart appliance market reached approximately $2.6 billion this year and is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 10%, reaching about $3.8 billion by 2029. The high growth rate is attributed to the low penetration rate of smart appliances in Latin America, despite strong consumer interest in smart homes. As of this year, the smart appliance penetration rate in Latin America is about 11%, which is significantly lower than South Korea (63%), the United States (18%), and Europe (16%).
