In addition, at the office of Assemblywoman Lim Mi-ae, it was decided that the bill would be co-sponsored with Assemblyman Song Kiheon. The committee also explained the purpose of the bill to Assemblyman Chun Junho and Assemblyman Han Junho, seeking their cooperation.
This visit to the National Assembly was not merely to submit signatures, but to directly convey the will of the citizens to the National Assembly and to initiate a full-fledged discussion on the justification for enacting the Abandoned Railway Act. In the same context, the signature campaign urging the enactment of the Abandoned Railway Act, which began at the former Kyungju Station on October 15, was also successfully concluded.
On this day, a total of 1,270 signatures were collected through the permanent tent at the Gyerim Middle School intersection and mobile signature booths throughout Kyungju. Now that the bill has officially entered the discussion stage in the National Assembly, the signature campaign has been concluded and the permanent tent dismantled. This is being recognized as a significant achievement, as citizens' participation and aspirations have led to tangible progress in the legislative process.
Han Youngtae, Chairman of the Kyungju Regional Committee, stated, "The enactment of the Abandoned Railway Act is not simply about passing a law. Its purpose is to safely redevelop abandoned railway sites left within the city, transform them into green spaces and cultural venues that offer rest and leisure to citizens, and ultimately provide new momentum for regional development and urban regeneration."
He emphasized, "The enactment of the Abandoned Railway Act aligns with the national direction of strengthening the autonomy and accountability of local governments. It will serve as an important solution to the challenges Kyungju faces in the post-APEC era, such as securing urban competitiveness after international events, expanding sustainable tourism infrastructure, and achieving harmonious development with the environment and cultural heritage."
