Professor Jeong Yeonsik of Yeungnam University Department of Urban Engineering Named Among World's Top 2% Researchers
Yeungnam University (President Choi Oechul) announced on November 14 that Professor Jeong Yeonsik of the Department of Urban Engineering has been named among the world’s top 2% of researchers by academic field, as announced in September 2025 by Stanford University in the United States and Elsevier, the world’s largest academic publisher based in the Netherlands.
The top 2% of researchers in each academic field are selected based on an evaluation of all scientists worldwide who have published at least five papers. The selection is made annually using various indicators, including career-long achievements based on Scopus data-the world’s largest academic journal citation index database created by Elsevier-as well as each researcher’s citation performance over the past year, the number of published papers, and the number of single-author papers.
This year, the results were announced in September, utilizing Scopus data compiled as of August 1, 2025. Professor Jeong has been recognized as a top 2% researcher in his field from 2019 to 2025 and is the only researcher in the transportation field among the two domestic researchers selected in the logistics and transportation sector.
Professor Jeong earned his Ph.D. in Transportation Engineering from the University of California, Irvine in 2007 and has been serving as a professor in the Department of Urban Engineering at Yeungnam University since 2016.
He primarily engages in education and research in areas such as mobility big data, traffic safety, and autonomous vehicles. In particular, Professor Jeong has expanded his research capabilities by leading numerous research projects in the fields of autonomous driving, mobility, and traffic safety as part of national R&D programs. He collaborates not only with major domestic institutions such as the Korea Transport Institute, Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology, Korea Transportation Safety Authority, Korea Road Traffic Authority, Korea Expressway Corporation, Hyundai Mobis, and Seoul National University Hospital, but also maintains ongoing joint research with the State University of New York at Buffalo and the University of Florida in the United States. Recently, through joint research with Seoul National University Hospital, he received the 'Outstanding Paper Presentation Award' at the Korean Society of Transportation Autumn Conference and the 'Academic Award' at the Korea ITS Society Autumn Conference, earning recognition for his achievements.
