'MEDICA' is the world's largest medical device exhibition, attracting more than 5,000 companies from over 70 countries and about 80,000 visitors from more than 160 countries every year. It serves as a leading global business platform for the medical industry, going beyond simple product displays to set global healthcare trends.

During the exhibition, participating companies will seek various business opportunities such as finding new buyers, expanding into overseas markets, and establishing global partnerships. They will also promote their brands and innovative technologies to medical industry professionals from around the world.

Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province has consistently participated in MEDICA since 2012. This year, together with Gangwon Technopark and the Wonju Medical Device Industry Promotion Foundation, the province will operate the 'Gangwon Joint Pavilion.' The province plans to comprehensively support product exhibitions, business meetings, export consultations, and advanced technology exchanges for participating companies.

The cumulative export contract performance from 2021 to 2024 stands at approximately 40.2 million dollars (about 58.2 billion won).

Major participating companies include CU Medical Systems Inc. (patient monitoring devices), Geomexsoft Co., Ltd. (patient safety monitoring), Listem Co., Ltd. (X-ray equipment), and Meju Co., Ltd. (ECG monitoring). The latest medical devices combining advanced technologies such as digital healthcare, artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and wearables will be showcased.

Meanwhile, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province is supporting the development of the local digital healthcare ecosystem by providing comprehensive support for the entire business cycle-including research and development (R&D), clinical validation, commercialization, and export marketing-through large-scale national projects such as regional innovation cluster development and the AI Global Innovation Zone, thereby strengthening capabilities and supporting overseas market entry for local companies.

In particular, Gangwon's medical device export performance in 2024 reached 747.2 million dollars (second nationwide, 14.2%), with production totaling 1.0657 trillion won (fourth nationwide). Over the past decade, the province has ranked first in total export industry performance and is growing as a key hub for Korea's medical device industry.

Vice Governor for Economic Affairs Kim Gwangrae stated, "We are making efforts on various fronts to resolve export difficulties faced by local companies in response to the recent strengthening of overseas regulations on medical devices. Through participation in MEDICA, we will actively support our companies to prove their technological capabilities and competitiveness in the global market and help Gangwon become a mega-hub for AI and digital healthcare."
