Kennedy's Grandson Announces Run for House Seat in New York
Jack Schlossberg, the grandson of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy, has officially announced his candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives, CNN and other outlets reported on November 11 (local time).
According to reports, Schlossberg, who is 32 years old this year, is the youngest son of Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of President Kennedy, and Edwin Schlossberg. Even within the prominent Kennedy political family, this marks the first time that a third-generation grandson is running for an elected seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
In his campaign announcement video, Schlossberg stated, "America is at a turning point," and described the current situation as a crisis on all levels, citing the cost-of-living crisis caused by 'one big, beautiful bill,' cuts to social programs such as healthcare, education, and childcare, as well as the threat of corruption.
Schlossberg went on to criticize U.S. President Donald Trump, saying, "Inside the White House, he is picking winners and losers, which is not capitalism but cronyism," and added, "In a constitutional crisis where a dangerous individual has seized all three branches of government, citizens’ rights are being stripped away and dissenting voices are being silenced."

Schlossberg is expected to run in New York’s 12th Congressional District in the midterm elections scheduled for November next year. The seat has become open following the retirement of Democratic Representative Jerry Nadler. However, the race is already competitive, with New York State Assemblywoman Micah Lasher and Liam Elkind, who founded a food and medical relief organization during the COVID-19 pandemic, among the contenders.
