Imsil County Holds "Adoption Empathy Camping" with Stray Animals
Imsil County in North Jeolla Province held the "Adoption Empathy Camping Trip to Imsil" with stray animals at the Osu National Leisure Camping Site over two days, from November 9 to 10.
According to the county on November 11, the event was organized to promote Imsil County's pet policies and encourage the adoption of stray animals. Twelve dogs from the local animal shelter, ten teams of one-day guardians, and ten families accompanied by their own pets participated in the event.
The first day featured a hands-on experience making homemade pet food, followed by a series of programs in partnership with the Wonkwang University RISE Project Group: pet etiquette education, essential animal welfare and legal education for prospective adopters, pet CPR training, animal-assisted therapy, and making identification tags.
The pre-adoption education emphasized the importance of responsibility and learning as a pet owner. Later, in collaboration with the Woosuk University RISE Project Group, participants enjoyed a variety of activities such as an "Empathy Night," a walk at Imsil Cheese Theme Park, and creating memory cards.
Over the course of the two-day, one-night camp, both the shelter dogs and the participating families with their own pets had a unique and meaningful experience. This camp is also noteworthy as a follow-up project to two previous festivals that achieved successful adoption outcomes.
At the "Imsil N Pet Star" event in May and the "Imsil N Cheese Festival" held in October, adoption promotion booths for stray dogs were operated, successfully finding new families for 30 dogs.
The county is currently investing 2 billion won to improve the poor conditions of its facility, which houses about 100 stray dogs, and is also working on the construction of a new animal shelter.
