The competition, jointly hosted by Gimpo City and Yonsei University (Software-Centered University Project Group), was held on the 9th at the Gimpo Citizens' Hall Indoor Gymnasium and Multipurpose Room. Its significance lies in overcoming geographical limitations and creating a new platform where elementary, middle, and high school students from across the country could participate together through collaboration between Gimpo City and Yonsei University.
What set this event apart was not only the competition itself, but also the provision of practical advice on career paths and university admissions to Gimpo students by Yonsei University undergraduates, fostering tangible growth and maximizing participant satisfaction.
On the day of the event, the venue was bustling with elementary, middle, and high school students from across the country taking part in the competition, as well as citizens eager to experience various hands-on booths and Yonsei University's career and admissions mentoring booth, demonstrating the high level of interest in AI and software education.
This competition enhanced its educational impact by assigning missions based on the Gimpo City map, requiring participants to set autonomous driving routes and complete tasks, thereby simultaneously promoting Gimpo's tourist attractions.
Notably, by utilizing educational kits (Spike Prime), the event went beyond a simple coding contest to focus on strengthening convergence skills for the AI era and fostering creative problem-solving experiences. Participants assembled the required kits and designed creative coding solutions, fully demonstrating their abilities.
In addition to awarding gold, silver, and bronze prizes to a total of seven teams, two special awards were also presented, further highlighting the significance of the competition. For the elementary division, the special award recognized originality in kit assembly and unique attack strategies, encouraging creative attempts. For the middle and high school division, the special award was given to teams that completed challenging missions, acknowledging their high level of technical achievement.
The total prize pool for the competition was 2.3 million won, and nine teams received awards, including the Gimpo Mayor's Award and the Yonsei University Software-Centered University Project Group Director's Award. The gold prizes went to Team SY Mechanics and Team Tomorrow; the silver prizes to Team Ares and Team Sizers; the bronze prizes to Team Athens, Team Unlimited, and Team Codex; and the special awards to Team Zero Push and Team Haagen Dazs.
Meanwhile, during the competition, the AI and software experience booths and Yonsei University's career and admissions mentoring booth for general visitors and spectators were met with great enthusiasm. In particular, the mentoring booth, staffed by undergraduates from Yonsei University's College of Artificial Intelligence Convergence, proved so popular that pre-registration closed quickly. Around 30 students participated as mentees, receiving in-depth guidance on a wide range of topics, from academic concerns such as grades, school records, and the college entrance exam, to questions about career paths in artificial intelligence and computer science, study planning, and stress management.
Furthermore, the AI and software experience booths offered a variety of activities, including robot soccer, AI-powered Omok, AR archery, robot curling, and ICT running, providing enjoyable experiences for all ages and making the event a festive occasion not only for participants but also for the general public.
