It is designed to bring together local residents, merchants, and visitors to experience the traditional kimchi-making culture and to inject new energy into the traditional market.
In particular, Bukpyeong Folk Market operates as a five-day market, opening on the 3rd and 8th of every month. As the event falls on the 8th, which is a market day, the entire market is expected to be even more vibrant. Citizens and tourists visiting the market will be able to enjoy not only the kimchi-making experience but also a variety of market foods and local specialties.
On the day of the event, a kimchi-making experience will be offered to the first 250 participants on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants will have the opportunity to mix seasoning with salted cabbage themselves, learning about the traditional kimchi-making process. In addition, visitors who present receipts showing purchases of 10,000 won or more at Bukpyeong Folk Market will be eligible to enter a prize draw, further encouraging participation and excitement among market-goers.
A representative of the Donghae Bukpyeong Merchants Association stated, "The Bukpyeong Folk Market Kimchi-Making Festival is scheduled to coincide with a market day, making it a festive occasion that both citizens and tourists can enjoy together. We hope this event will help the traditional market become an even more vibrant space for communication and exchange."
