On November 6, the Sejong Metropolitan Mental Health Welfare Center, operated under commission by Sejong Chungnam National University Hospital, conducted Suicide Attempt Mediation Negotiator Training to enhance crisis response capabilities for psychiatric emergencies.
This training was attended by 24 dedicated personnel from relevant local agencies, including police and fire departments, who are responsible for psychiatric emergency scenes. The program, which is the only crisis negotiation training of its kind in Korea, focused on negotiation techniques actually used in suicide crisis situations.
In particular, participants learned effective communication methods with individuals in suicide crisis and engaged in training exercises that simulated various real-life scenarios. The training was led by Lee Jonghwa, CEO of CNS and Korea’s first certified crisis negotiation expert.
The curriculum included intervention for individuals in suicide crisis, active listening and crisis negotiation practice, and scenario-based simulations featuring actors, allowing participants to acquire rapid response skills for mental health emergencies.
An official from the welfare center stated, "Close cooperation with relevant agencies such as the police and fire departments is crucial, so we plan to continue operating training programs to further strengthen our joint response capabilities."
