View original imageOn November 5 (local time), Samsung SDI announced that its ultra-high-power cylindrical battery, 'SDI 25U-Power', was selected as the Best of Innovation in the Construction & Industrial Technology category of the '2026 CES Innovation Awards' announced by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA). Every year, ahead of the opening of CES, CTA evaluates innovative products from around the world based on technology, design, and innovation, and selects the recipients of the 'CES Innovation Awards'.
The 'SDI 25U-Power' is an ultra-high-power 18650 cylindrical battery (18mm in diameter, 65mm in height) that delivers double the output while weighing only half as much as conventional batteries. It is mainly used in power tools, contributing to improved user convenience and enhanced work efficiency.
For the first time among 18650 batteries, tabless technology has been applied to minimize resistance and effectively control heat generated during charging, achieving ultra-high-power performance, ultra-fast charging, and long lifespan simultaneously. This product utilizes a high-capacity high-nickel NCA cathode material and Samsung SDI's proprietary silicon carbon nanocomposite (SCN) anode material. With ultra-thin electrode plate coating, it reduces resistance and delivers powerful output even in a compact size.
In addition, Samsung SDI's 'No Thermal Propagation (No TP)' technology was included in the list of Innovation Award winners in the Vehicle Technology & Advanced Mobility category. 'No TP' is a technology that prevents heat from spreading to adjacent cells if a problem occurs in a specific battery cell. By utilizing a proprietary thermal propagation prediction program, Samsung SDI selects the optimal safety material between cells and designs a gas release vent that discharges gas through a designated path, thereby maximizing safety.
