Dongseo University RISE Project Group Sweeps Awards at Industry-Academia-Research Cooperation EXPO
Awarded the Minister of Education Award and the Chairman of the National Research Foundation of Korea Award
The RISE (Regional Innovation System for Education) Project Group at Dongseo University (President Jang Jeguk) received both the Minister of Education Award and the Chairman of the National Research Foundation of Korea Award at the '2025 Industry-Academia-Research Cooperation EXPO'.
This EXPO was jointly hosted by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and ICT, and Daegu Metropolitan City, and organized by the National Research Foundation of Korea. It was held at the West Hall of Daegu EXCO from October 29 to 31.
In the 'Best Regional Innovation Case Competition' signature project category, Dongseo University received the Chairman of the National Research Foundation of Korea Award (Encouragement Award) for its project, 'Establishing a Busan Shared Collaboration Platform Based on CENTUM Open UIC'.

View original imageThis project, led by Professor Lee Hyundong of the Department of Computer Engineering at Dongseo University, aims to realize Busan as a global hub city. Centered around Dongseo University's Centum Campus, a joint consortium was formed with Pusan National University, related organizations, research institutes, and companies to promote education, research and development, startups, and large-scale (GIGA) projects in the fields of cultural tourism and digital technology.
The judging panel highly praised the program for breaking down barriers inside and outside the university and establishing itself as a leading model for regional industry and academia-research cooperation.
Additionally, Professor Lee Hyundong of the Department of Computer Engineering received the Minister of Education Award as a distinguished contributor to industry-academia cooperation (education and talent development sector). Professor Lee was recognized for his contributions to nurturing creative, problem-solving talent and fulfilling the university's social responsibility through designing a shared and collaborative education system, expanding regular and non-regular curricula, spreading best practices nationwide, and operating programs in connection with local governments.
Hwang Kihyun, Director of the RISE Project Group and Head of the Industry-Academia Cooperation Group at Dongseo University, said, "It is very meaningful that Dongseo University's efforts in industry-academia cooperation have been recognized nationwide through this EXPO," adding, "We will continue to pursue technology development and talent cultivation through industry-academia-research cooperation, and develop into an innovative university that grows together with the local community."

The '2025 Industry-Academia-Research Cooperation EXPO' is the largest industry-academia-research cooperation event in Korea, held under the theme 'Opening the Future of New Industries with Local Communities through Industry-Academia-Research Cooperation', with 357 organizations participating to share and spread outstanding achievements.
