Daejeon City Council Special Committee on Personnel Hearings
Adopts and Approves Progress Report with "Qualified" Finding
On November 3, the Daejeon City Council adopted and approved the personnel hearing progress report on Kim Yongwon, the candidate for President of the Daejeon Tourism Organization, with a finding of "qualified."
The Daejeon City Council's Special Committee on Personnel Hearings, chaired by Jeong Myungkuk, held its second meeting on this day and approved the progress report on the personnel hearing for the Daejeon Tourism Organization President candidate, which was conducted on October 31.
In the progress report, the Special Committee stated, "Since 2022, he has served as an executive director at the Daejeon Tourism Organization, gaining direct experience with the organization's business structure and operational methods. Considering the results of the basic background check and his community activities, we found no factors that would undermine his integrity or sense of public duty."
The committee further explained, "The candidate has made it clear that he prioritizes organizational public interest and tangible results for citizens over personal achievement. He also values the responsibility, restraint, and transparency required of a public enterprise executive. Therefore, we found no particular issues with his values or sense of public service."
Regarding his ability to perform the role, the committee emphasized, "He not only has a comprehensive understanding of the key directions of tourism policies that Daejeon City has been pursuing, but he has also recognized the issues and limitations revealed in the process and sought ways to address them. His proactive willingness to implement improvements was also confirmed."
However, as supplementary tasks, the committee requested, "After his appointment, he should swiftly reflect the vision and tasks presented during the hearing in actual business plans and budgets. He should also work to develop and foster unique Daejeon tourism products that reflect local characteristics, establish an ESG management system, and strive to meet citizens' expectations so that the organization can become a public enterprise with both expertise and competitiveness."
Jeong Myungkuk, Chair of the Special Committee on Personnel Hearings, stated, "The results of this hearing reflect a high evaluation of the candidate's broad insight as a journalist and his practical experience at the organization. Going forward, the Daejeon Tourism Organization should deliver results that citizens can truly feel, and the council will continue to monitor and support efforts to ensure that local tourism translates into real benefits for the regional economy."
