Namyangju Delegation Makes Official Visit to Mianyang, Sichuan Province, China
Signing of Cultural Exchange MOU
Seeking to Strengthen Practical Cooperation Based on Shared Humanistic Values
Namyangju City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor: Joo Gwangdeok) will officially visit Mianyang City in Sichuan Province, China, from November 3 to November 7 for a five-day, four-night schedule to explore practical cooperation measures with its new exchange city.
This visit is part of a mutual exchange based on the letter of intent for friendly cooperation signed in 2021, and follows the visit of a Mianyang City delegation to Namyangju in April this year. The city organized this trip to establish a cooperative framework with Mianyang, the hometown of Chinese poet Li Bai (courtesy name: Taibai), in various fields including culture, arts, and tourism.
The delegation consists of a total of 19 members, including Mayor Joo Gwangdeok, relevant city officials, and representatives from the Namyangju Cultural Center. The itinerary includes an official meeting with Mianyang City leaders, tours of industrial and cultural facilities, and a cultural exchange roundtable.
In particular, the two cities plan to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for cultural exchange based on a shared humanistic perspective, using their respective representative figures, Jeong Yak-yong and Li Bai, as a connecting link. Practical cooperation discussions will also take place, involving the Namyangju Cultural Center and the Mianyang City Bureau of Culture, Broadcasting, and Tourism. In addition, the delegation will visit Mianyang's science and technology infrastructure and major industrial complexes to review the potential for future collaboration.
The city aims to use this visit as an opportunity to broaden the scope of international cooperation and set an exemplary case for exchanges between Korean and Chinese cities. Moving forward, the city plans to prepare for practical and sustainable cooperation to be established step by step, based on mutual trust between the two cities.
Mayor Joo Gwangdeok stated, "This cultural exchange connecting Jeong Yak-yong and Li Bai marks the beginning of Namyangju and Mianyang becoming partners who share humanistic values, beyond simple administrative exchanges. I hope that this visit will serve as a foundation for our two cities to continue sincere cooperation and develop a sustainable exchange relationship."
