UNIST Technology Holdings Selected as 2025 TIPS Operator... Foundation for UNIST to Become a Deep Tech Startup Hub
UNIST Technology Holdings Selected as New TIPS Operator for 2025
Ulsan's Startup Ecosystem Expected to Expand and Diversify
UNIST-Style Deep Tech Startup Platform to Be Fully Activated
'UNIST Technology Holdings' has been officially selected as a new operator for the 2025 TIPS (Tech Incubator Program for Startup, a private investment-led technology startup support program) under the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.
With this selection, Ulsan has produced its second TIPS operator.
This is expected to further expand and diversify the local technology startup ecosystem. TIPS is a public-private partnership startup support program in which private operators discover and recommend innovative startups, and the government provides linked support for technology development and commercialization funding.
Since 2017, UNIST has attracted private TIPS operators to its campus, resulting in 33 startups being selected for the TIPS program. Based on this experience, UNIST has been designated as the only 'Deep Tech Startup-Centered University' among science and technology institutes by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, thereby strengthening its position as a technology startup hub.
UNIST Technology Holdings is a wholly owned subsidiary of UNIST. Since its establishment in 2017, it has commercialized research achievements through various methods such as technology transfer and fund investment. With its selection as a TIPS operator, the 'UNIST-Style Deep Tech Startup Platform,' organically connecting the university, technology holdings, and private investors, will be fully activated.
Han Taegyu, Head of UNIST Technology Holdings and the person in charge of TIPS operations, is a field expert who has supported more than 20 companies in being selected for TIPS and joined UNIST Technology Holdings in February this year.
He stated, "This year, we were selected as the sole operator of the parent fund for public technology commercialization and established a 12 billion won fund, and now we have also secured the position of TIPS operator," adding, "Please look forward to UNIST taking the lead in fostering the startup ecosystem in Ulsan."
