Gapyeong County Resumes Mobile Resident Registration Card Issuance After National Resource Management Center Fire
IC Resident Registration Cards Now Available at Township and Town Administrative Welfare Centers in Gapyeong County
Gapyeong County in Gyeonggi Province announced on October 29 that it has resumed the issuance service for integrated circuit (IC) resident registration cards, which had been temporarily suspended due to a fire at the National Resource Management Center, starting from 9 a.m. on October 28.
The IC resident registration card is similar in appearance to the existing resident registration card, but features an embedded IC chip for the convenience of issuing a mobile resident registration card. Both new issuances and reissuances are available by visiting the nearest township or town administrative welfare center.
In particular, by tapping the IC resident registration card on a smartphone, residents can easily issue or reissue a mobile resident registration card. Additionally, when visiting a resident center, residents can also obtain a mobile resident registration card by scanning a QR code.
Gapyeong County has decided to extend the issuance deadline by two months for newly eligible residents aged 17 and older who were required to receive a resident registration card during the service suspension period in September and October. Furthermore, this period will be excluded from the calculation of late penalty fees. For example, even if a resident born in August 2007 fails to receive the card by August 31, 2025, but applies in November, the months of September and October will not be counted toward the penalty period.
