Kaeho Lee Listens to Local Livelihood Issues... "Will Reflect in Policy"
On Days Without National Assembly Audits, Lee Heads to the Field
Discussing Local Currency and Childcare Issues
Kaeho Lee, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea representing Damyang, Hampyeong, Yeonggwang, and Jangseong in South Jeolla Province, continues his efforts to address local issues and support livelihoods. On the 28th, Assemblyman Lee stated, "On the 27th, I met with branch managers of Nonghyup Hanaro Mart in South Jeolla and staff members of local children's centers to listen to the difficulties they face on the ground and to seek solutions."
During a meeting with Hanaro Mart branch managers, Assemblyman Lee heard complaints about restrictions on the use of local gift certificates and livelihood recovery support funds. It was pointed out that while local currency can be used at Hanaro Mart branches in township-level areas, it is restricted at branches in town-level areas, causing inconvenience for cooperative members and local residents.
Regarding this issue, Assemblyman Lee emphasized, "Local currency is a system designed to revitalize neighborhood businesses and create a virtuous cycle in the local economy, so its effectiveness is maximized only when residents can actually use it." He added, "This matter can be resolved immediately by revising the guidelines of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, without the need for legal amendments. I will actively request improvements from the Ministry in solidarity with other National Assembly members representing rural areas, including South Jeolla."
Assemblyman Lee also met with staff members of local children's centers to listen to their concerns about poor working conditions and workforce shortages. The staff pointed out structural problems such as the lack of a seniority-based pay system, low wages, and insufficient long-term service incentives. They appealed for urgent improvements in wage standards and rational treatment to ensure a stable care environment.
Expressing deep empathy for the staff's difficulties, Assemblyman Lee stated, "Stable working conditions for staff are essential for providing quality care to children." He continued, "I will work closely with South Jeolla Province, local governments, and the central government to develop practical improvement measures, such as fully reflecting the wage guidelines, expanding benefits for improved working conditions, and ensuring pay equity among care institutions."
