Korea Forest Service Implements 'Special Act' to Support Wildfire Recovery in Gyeongnam, Gyeongbuk, and Ulsan
The Korea Forest Service announced on October 28 that the "Special Act on Relief and Support for Victims of Large-Scale Wildfires in Gyeongnam, Gyeongbuk, and Ulsan" (hereinafter referred to as the Special Act) has been promulgated and is now in effect.
The Special Act is a legislative measure designed to provide relief, support for daily life and psychological stability for residents of areas affected by large-scale wildfires, as well as to facilitate the swift recovery and sustainable development of these regions. The bill passed the National Assembly plenary session on September 25.
Through the implementation of the Special Act, the Korea Forest Service plans to focus on supporting the recovery of facilities, equipment, and crops for forestry workers in the affected areas, providing living expenses for households engaged in forest product collection, and continuing to pay direct forestry subsidies, thereby expediting the recovery of the forestry sector.
In addition, by designating and supporting special forest management zones and leading forest investment districts, the agency aims to establish a foundation for the sustainable use of forests in the disaster-stricken regions that are at risk of depopulation. The Korea Forest Service also plans to work with local governments to promote restoration measures for the complete recovery of the forest ecosystems in the affected areas.
