Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Kim Jin-tae) and the Gangwon Tourism Foundation (CEO Choi Sunghyun) announced on October 27 that they have additionally selected Gangneung as a “Special Recommended Travel Destination” from November to December in celebration of the “2025-2026 Visit Gangwon Years,” and will launch large-scale promotional marketing campaigns. This initiative is intended to counteract the tourism downturn caused by the drought damage experienced in the Gangneung region during August and September, and to revitalize the local tourism economy.

It is considered one of Gangneung’s hidden gems, offering healing experiences for both citizens and tourists.
In addition, the “Gangneung Metaverse Experience Center,” which offers immersive experiences that blend virtual and real worlds using advanced digital technology, and “Arte Museum Gangneung,” an immersive media art exhibition hall encapsulating Gangneung’s nature and emotions, are also recommended as major attractions. Visitors are also encouraged to try jjambbong sundubu and sundubu gelato for dessert in the Chodang Sundubu Village, and to enjoy a cup of aromatic coffee from a master barista while soaking in the East Sea’s tranquility at Anmok Caf? Street.
To intensively promote Gangneung in November and December, the Gangwon Tourism Foundation is carrying out a variety of marketing activities. In particular, since October 1, the foundation has been running the “Gangneung Travel Accommodation Festival” in partnership with Yanolja, offering discount coupons of up to 30,000 won on a first-come, first-served basis according to the amount of accommodation booked.
Various online events are also being held on the official website for the “Visit Gangwon Years” and the Gangwon Tourism Foundation’s Instagram account. From October 23 to November 2, a promotional event is underway to spread the word about the relaunch of the Gangneung Coffee Festival and Noodle Festival, and in November, additional events will be held to promote Gangneung’s tourism, aiming to showcase the city’s appeal to a wider audience.
