Explained Circumstances of His Stay Abroad
Police: "Safety Confirmed, Investigating Possible Crime Involvement"
A man in his twenties who had lost contact while in Cambodia has safely returned to Korea and appeared before the police.
The Gwangju Gwangsan Police Station announced on the 24th that Mr. A, who had been reported missing, appeared at the police station earlier that morning, confirmed his safety, and gave statements about the circumstances of his departure and his stay abroad.
Mr. A left for Thailand in June without informing his family, and after two months without contact, his family filed a missing person report. He later traveled to Cambodia, where he reportedly called his family pleading for help.
It is reported that Mr. A decided to return to Korea on his own after a recent incident in which a Korean university student died in Cambodia. During this process, he experienced difficulties such as being denied entry to the embassy and was unable to receive proper assistance.
Now that Mr. A's safety has been confirmed, the police plan to close the missing person case. However, based on his statements, they will further investigate whether he was a victim of crime or involved in any criminal activity while in Cambodia.
