Discussions Held on Tennessee’s Industrial Infrastructure and Economic Cooperation
Ryu Jin, Chairman of the Korea Economic Association, hosted a breakfast meeting on the morning of October 24 at the Grand Hyatt Seoul, inviting Tennessee Governor Bill Lee and a delegation visiting Korea.
This meeting was organized to discuss ways to enhance economic cooperation between Korea and the state of Tennessee, highlight Korea's investment achievements, and explore future investment opportunities.
On the Korean side, representatives from six companies-POSCO, CJ, LS, Doosan, Hyosung, and Dongwon-attended. On the Tennessee side, Governor Bill Lee was joined by seven delegates, including Stuart McWhorter, Tennessee's Lieutenant Governor and Commissioner of Economic and Community Development. Together, they discussed Tennessee's industrial infrastructure and the current state of economic cooperation.
Chairman Ryu stated, "Governor Bill Lee is well known for his special affection for Korea, as his first overseas visit as governor in 2019 was to Korea. During this visit as well, he has shown great interest by participating in numerous events." He continued, "I ask for your continued interest in the activities of Korean companies in the United States for the sustained development of Korea-Tennessee and broader Korea-U.S. cooperation." He also conveyed the business community's concerns regarding various challenges faced by Korean companies making large-scale investments in the United States.

Since taking office, Chairman Ryu has maintained ongoing exchanges with U.S. governors. In 2023, he met with Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs (September) and New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy (October). Last year, he also met with Arkansas Governor Sarah Sanders (March) and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum (October, now Secretary of the Interior). On October 20, he hosted a reception for Montana Governor Greg Gianforte.
