Analysis: "Significant Disappointment Felt"... Uncertainty Over Launch Within the Year
The Jeonnam Provincial Council has once again postponed the review of the Gwangju-Jeonnam Special Metropolitan Alliance agreement, causing the launch of the organization within the year to stall.
On October 23, the Jeonnam Provincial Council held the second plenary session of its 394th extraordinary session and processed some ordinance amendments, but did not present the "Special Metropolitan Alliance Agreement" submitted by Jeonnam Governor Kim Yungrok.
It was reported that, although the Planning and Administration Committee, which oversees the matter, discussed whether to review the "Special Metropolitan Alliance Agreement" the previous afternoon, the council members failed to reach a final consensus.
Previously, on October 15, the Planning and Administration Committee also held a meeting to review the Special Metropolitan Alliance Agreement, but ultimately decided to postpone it. At that time, the review was put on hold because a conclusion had not been reached regarding the composition ratio of metropolitan council members.
However, it is known that the main issue behind this postponement was the controversy over the selection of the candidate site for the National AI Computing Center.
Analysts say that the disappointment among political circles in Jeonnam over the growing backlash from Gwangju politicians-after Gwangju was eliminated as a candidate site for the National AI Computing Center-significantly influenced the decision to postpone the review of the Special Metropolitan Alliance Agreement.
