The National Library for the Disabled under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is accepting applications from institutions wishing to acquire "Easy-to-Read Books for People with Developmental Disabilities" until October 31.
Easy-to-Read Books are designed for people with developmental disabilities and those who have difficulty with literacy. These books use easy-to-understand vocabulary and illustrations, and feature simplified sentence structures and lengths.
The National Library for the Disabled began distributing Easy-to-Read Books in 2022 and has gradually expanded the program. This year, the library plans to distribute 40,000 copies-an increase of 36,000 from last year's 4,000 copies-to metropolitan representative libraries, public libraries, and special schools (classes). The books cover a variety of topics, including mental health, philosophy, travel, and cooking.
