Understanding AI to Prevent AI Crimes... Busan Science and Technology Advisory Group Provides Police Officers with AI Training
Innovation in Investigation, Prevention, and Civil Services Through AI Technology
"AI is not a police officer, but a partner. In the era of AI, the police must also lead innovation."
The Busan Science and Technology Advisory Group (Chairman Jang Jongwook) conducted training on "Understanding and Practical Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)" for about 60 police officers from the General Affairs Division and Community Police Division at the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency's First Training Center on October 15 and 17, 2025.
This training was organized to enhance the police organization's understanding of AI and their ability to utilize it in the field amid the rapidly changing digital environment. Jang Jongwook, a professor in the Department of Computer Engineering at Dong-Eui University and head of the Busan Science and Technology Advisory Group, served as the instructor. The training covered topics such as: the basic concepts and development stages of AI; the principles of machine learning and deep learning; case studies of AI applications in police work; AI and digital forensics; and ethics and personal information protection.

AI-based evidence analysis, automatic extraction of legal precedents, detection of missing persons in CCTV footage, and crime prediction "hotspot" analysis were introduced, drawing significant interest.
During the lecture, Jang Jongwook emphasized, "AI is not a technology that replaces police officers, but a partner that enhances work efficiency and the accuracy of decision-making," adding, "Establishing an intelligent policing system using data analysis, pattern recognition, and deep learning is essential."
He also stressed, "Since the use of AI comes with risks such as data bias, deepfakes, and personal information infringement, it is important for the police to ethically control the technology and secure public trust. We must create a safer society through the harmony of human ethical judgment and technology."
