On October 16, Donghae City (Mayor Shim Gyu-eon) announced that, on two separate occasions-October 17 to 18 and October 31 to November 1-more than 1,000 large-scale tourists will board the Baekdudaegan Valley Tourist Train departing from Songjeong Station in Gwangju Metropolitan City, with Donghae City as their final destination.

This tourist train package is organized by member companies of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Tourism Association, who have chartered a dedicated tourist train to tour the Baekdudaegan Valley section and stay in Donghae City for a one-night, two-day itinerary.

This package was previously operated once in May, attracting 560 visitors. Due to the enthusiastic response from those visitors, the package is being offered again. Prior to the launch, on July 29-30, executives from the Gwangju Tourism Association personally visited major tourist attractions, accommodations, and restaurants in Donghae to conduct an on-site inspection.

This train package, offered twice, sold out quickly. A total of 1,140 people-570 per trip (eight train cars each time)-are scheduled to visit in two separate groups.

On the first day, tourists will begin at Dojjaebigol Sky Valley, then tour the Mukho and Mangsang areas. On the second day, they will visit Donghae’s signature attractions, including Chuam Beach and Cheongok Golden Bat Cave. Notably, on the 18th, the schedule coincides with the Bukpyeong Folk Market’s market day, so a “Bukpyeong Market Tour” will also be held, offering tourists from the Honam region a unique experience.

In addition, from October 17 to 18, not only these tourists but also autumn hikers visiting Mureung Valley and attendees of the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Residents’ Autonomy Expo are expected to flock to Donghae City, bringing vibrancy throughout the city.

Lee Jinhwa, Director of Tourism, stated, “We will do our utmost to ensure a smooth experience for large groups of tourists, so there will be no inconvenience in visiting attractions and using facilities,” adding, “With improved accessibility thanks to the opening of the Donghae Line, we will continue to develop various tourist train packages to help revitalize the local economy.”

Meanwhile, since October 10, Donghae City has resumed providing incentives for attracting group tourists, and the influx of group tourists is expected to continue throughout the second half of the year.
