"Both Vaccines Can Be Administered on the Same Day"
Simultaneous Vaccination Available at 3,185 Designated Medical Institutions
Starting on October 15, the government will sequentially offer free vaccinations for influenza (flu) and COVID-19 to seniors aged 65 and older. Both vaccines can be administered on the same day at medical institutions, and only vaccines with proven efficacy and safety will be used.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency announced on October 14 that influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations for the 2025-2026 season will be provided to seniors and high-risk groups for COVID-19 from October 15, 2025, through April 30, 2026.
Vaccinations will be rolled out by age group. Those aged 75 and older can receive their shots starting on October 15, those aged 70 to 74 from October 20, and those aged 65 to 69 from October 22. In Seoul, simultaneous vaccinations are available at 3,185 designated medical institutions. The agency explained, "There are no issues with immune interference or safety when receiving the COVID-19 and flu vaccines at the same time."
Eligible individuals should bring identification or other supporting documents and visit any designated medical institution, regardless of their registered address. The list of participating institutions can be found at local public health centers or on the 'Immunization Helper' website.
After vaccination, recipients should remain at the medical institution for 20 to 30 minutes to monitor for any adverse reactions. After returning home, it is recommended to rest adequately, and if there is pain at the injection site or a mild fever, to take it easy. If severe symptoms such as a high fever or difficulty breathing occur, immediate medical attention is necessary.
The agency emphasized, "Both flu and COVID-19 pose a higher risk of hospitalization and death among the elderly," and stressed the need to prepare for the simultaneous outbreaks expected this winter through these vaccinations.
The number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients has recently been declining. According to the agency, hospitalizations peaked at 460 during the 37th week (September 7-13), then dropped to 428 in the 38th week and 403 in the 39th week.
