[2025 Audit] NEC Chairperson Cha Jeongin: "Improving Competitive University Admissions System... NEC Innovation Plan to Be Announced by December 23"
National Assembly Education Committee Audit Held on October 14
On October 14, National Education Commission (NEC) Chairperson Cha Jeongin stated, "The Special Committee on University Admissions within the NEC will seek ways to improve the competitive university entrance education system and normalize early childhood, elementary, and secondary education."
During a work report to the National Assembly's Education Committee on this day, Chairperson Cha said, "We will form and operate special committees to discuss major educational issues and national strategic tasks in a professional and in-depth manner," making these remarks.
He also said, "Through the Special Committee on High School Education, we will propose comprehensive development plans for high school education," adding, "Regarding the high school credit system, we will thoroughly review revisions to the credit completion standards within the curriculum."
Within the Special Committee on Early Childhood Education, he announced that the committee would seek educational solutions for the healthy growth of young children, taking into account private education and care for infants and toddlers.
Chairperson Cha stated, "The National Education Commission is a government agency driving a major transformation in education," and added, "To overcome the stagnation of the past three years and fulfill our responsibilities, we will announce the NEC’s innovation initiatives and future key tasks by December 23 this year." Previously, at his inauguration ceremony held on September 15, Chairperson Cha had pledged, "Within 100 days of taking office, we will complete urgent NEC reforms and report the results to the public through the media."
Chairperson Cha plans to further expand the NEC’s organization in the future. The NEC currently has 21 commissioners and 33 secretariat staff members, with this year’s budget amounting to 10,342,000,000 won.
