Jeonse Deposit Fraud Damages in Gwangju and Jeonnam Exceed 10 Billion Won Over 5 Years

View original imageIt has been revealed that the total amount of damages from Jeonse deposit fraud incidents in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions over the past five years has exceeded 10 billion won.
According to data received by Democratic Party lawmaker Min Hongcheol, a member of the National Assembly's Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, from the Housing and Urban Guarantee Corporation (HUG), there were 89 Jeonse deposit fraud cases in Gwangju and Jeonnam from 2020 to last year, resulting in a total of 10.1 billion won in damages.
By region, Gwangju accounted for 67 cases and 7.7 billion won, while Jeonnam recorded 22 cases and 2.4 billion won. Among these, HUG made substitute payments for 24 cases totaling 3.1 billion won, where landlords failed to return the deposits. Of this amount, 700 million won has yet to be recovered.
Nationwide, during the same period, incidents amounted to 1.0591 trillion won, with 86% of the damages concentrated in the Seoul metropolitan area, including Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon.

Lawmaker Min stated, "To protect victims and stabilize the market, the government and public institutions must establish proactive preventive measures and a prompt recovery system."
