Korea and Philippines to Promote Cooperation on AI-Based Smart City Projects
Opening Doors for Participation in the Philippines' BBM Project
Technology Sharing Forum and B2B Consultations Held
As the Philippines pursues a project to build large-scale infrastructure based on artificial intelligence (AI), opportunities have opened up for Korean engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) and technology solution companies to participate in these projects.
KOTRA (Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency) announced on the 14th that it will host the "2025 Korea-Philippines Infrastructure and Plant Cooperation Forum and Consultation Meeting" in Manila, Philippines, together with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Philippines and the Korea Plant Industries Association. The event will be attended by Philippine government agencies such as the Department of Transportation, Department of Energy, and the Bases Conversion and Development Authority, as well as multilateral development banks (MDBs), to discuss ways to expand project cooperation with Korean companies.
The Philippines, a key Global South country and ASEAN member, is promoting the Build Better More (BBM) initiative, a government-led project for the development of transportation, energy, and water management infrastructure. In particular, the country is focusing on responding to climate change, improving energy efficiency, and modernizing flood and water management. On this day, 30 domestic EPC and technology companies participated in the forum to share technologies and hold business-to-business (B2B) consultations for projects of mutual interest.
At the forum, Korea Water Resources Corporation introduced its digital twin-based water management platform, "Digital Garam+," while companies such as Saman and RMX Platform presented solutions for improving drainage in Metro Manila and an AI smart city platform, respectively.
Philippine government agencies shared information on key infrastructure development projects, procurement policies and systems, and expressed their willingness to cooperate by introducing cases of water industry companies participating in Asian Development Bank (ADB) projects.
