The Busan Regional Office of Patriots and Veterans Affairs (headed by Namil Lee) recently announced on October 3 that it held a "Time Capsule Sealing Ceremony for the 100th Anniversary of Liberation" at the audiovisual room of Dongnae Girls' High School (Principal Yongnam Oh).
The event, held on October 1, consisted of an opening ceremony, greetings, a reading of the Declaration of Independence, an introduction of the items to be sealed, the sealing ceremony itself, and a group singing of the Liberation Day song.
The time capsule contains a school uniform, a Taegukgi flag with handprints, a badge commemorating the 130th anniversary of Dongnae Girls' High School, letters addressed to oneself 20 years in the future, photos of class and club activities, materials on social issues in 2025, and popular teacher catchphrases, among other items reflecting the individuality of the students and the spirit of the times. The time capsule is scheduled to be opened in 2045, marking the 100th anniversary of Liberation, 20 years from now.
Yongnam Oh, Principal of Dongnae Girls' High School, stated, "It is an honor to hold this meaningful event commemorating the 80th anniversary of Liberation at Dongnae Girls' High School, which led the first March 1st Movement in the Busan area in 1919 and produced the female independence activist Park Cha-jeong. Just as the sacrifices and dedication of our predecessors laid the foundation for today, I hope our students will grow to become the leaders who will shape the future."
