Among the 229 cities, counties, and districts nationwide, Goheung County in South Jeolla Province has the highest number of centenarians per 100,000 people, while Ulleung County in North Gyeongsang Province has the lowest.
According to data on the "Current Status of the Population Aged 100 and Over," submitted by Nam Insoon, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea (Songpa-byeong, Seoul), to the National Assembly's audit of government affairs and sourced from Statistics Korea, the number of people aged 100 and over increased by 37.62%, from 5,624 in 2020 to 7,740 in 2024. As of last year, there were 1,389 men (17.95%) and 6,351 women (82.05%), meaning the number of women was approximately 4.57 times higher than that of men.
Focusing on the top 10 cities, counties, and districts, as of 2024, Goheung County in South Jeolla Province had the highest number of centenarians per 100,000 people at 75, followed by Jeongseon County in Gangwon Province with 71, Yeongyang County in North Gyeongsang Province with 60, and Buyeo County in South Chungcheong Province with 58. Five out of the top 10 regions with the highest number of centenarians were located in the Honam region.
In contrast, Ulleung County in North Gyeongsang Province had the lowest number of centenarians per 100,000 people at zero, followed by Gangseo District in Busan with two, Jung District and Nam District in Ulsan with five each, and Changwon City in South Gyeongsang Province with six.

Nam Insoon stated, "The number of centenarians is approaching 8,000, and this year, the population aged 65 and over has surpassed 20% of the total population, marking our entry into a full-fledged super-aged society." She emphasized, "On October 2, Senior Citizens' Day, we must further strengthen welfare budgets and support for the elderly so that seniors can enjoy a healthy and happy retirement."
