"It's not easy to be an office manager at a law firm, a lecturer, and a multi-jobber. However, the sense of mission that comes from 'helping someone' is what drives my life."
Dongjin Kim (51), Office Director at Innocence Law Firm, who has consistently handled complex legal disputes and litigation work such as auctions, civil and criminal cases, and patent applications for numerous clients at law firms for 18 years, shared, "I have been able to continue my work so far because of my sense of calling to be someone who helps others."
Since 2003, Kim has worked as an office manager at law firms, meticulously identifying legal matters in various disputes to bring the best results for clients. He worked in Suncheon from 2003 to 2005, and since 2010, he has been working at law firms in Gwangju, gaining experience with various local cases.
During the gap after 2005, he utilized his experience preparing for the bar exam to teach lectures on civil law, administrative law, criminal law, and criminal procedure law-a role he continues to this day.
Kim considers his practical experience to be his greatest strength compared to other office managers. Clients who visit law firms seek advice not only on simple lawsuits but also on diverse legal matters such as auctions, compulsory executions, and patents. Since he needs to support work in these areas, he must study the relevant laws and procedures in greater depth. By directly experiencing many complex cases, he has gained valuable know-how, which in turn has increased client satisfaction.
Kim explained, "By assisting with all kinds of client applications, such as auction proceedings, execution requests, and patent applications and registrations, I play a vital role in providing the legal support clients need. I am confident that my understanding of lawsuits and the law is second to none. To deliver the best outcome for clients, one must have a thorough understanding of the case and a wide range of legal knowledge. I feel most satisfied with my profession when I realize that I am providing the legal support clients truly need."
Kim is not only an office manager at a law firm but also a professional multi-jobber who works as a lecturer. He is currently teaching at a place called Sidae Edu, where he lectures on administrative law for certified labor attorneys, civil law for patent attorneys and certified labor attorneys, and administrative procedure theory for the second round of administrative officer exams. He records these lectures in his spare time after work, focusing on delivering complex concepts and theories in a clear and straightforward manner. Kim's lectures are known for their unique and differentiated skills. He explains difficult theories or factual relationships using diagrams, and maximizes learners' understanding with simple language and precise pronunciation, which has made his lectures highly popular.
Kim said, "The main reason I started working multiple jobs was to cover living expenses, but over time, it became more about helping others and pursuing self-development. I believe that both the office manager and lecturer roles are about providing practical help to others. As an office manager, I help resolve disputes, and as a lecturer, I help examinees pass their exams. Both of these roles are indispensable callings in my life."
With extensive practical experience and legal knowledge, veteran Kim values two things above all in handling cases: 'communication with clients' and 'experience.' In 2023, there was a case where a construction company's claim for construction payment was dismissed. Although he presented sufficient evidence and logical arguments, he lost the case for reasons that were hard to accept. This experience has become a valuable asset for both his practical work and his lectures.
