Travel Wallet: "Foreign Currency Top-Ups Surge Before Chuseok... Yen, Euro, Dollar Lead"
"Payments in China, Iceland, and Egypt Also on the Rise"
Travel Wallet, a fintech company specializing in foreign currency payments, announced on October 1 that both foreign currency top-ups and card issuances have surged compared to the previous year ahead of the Chuseok holiday.
According to an analysis of data from September 15 to 28, the Japanese yen accounted for 67% of the total foreign currency top-up transaction amount, marking a 55% increase year-on-year.
The euro (28%), US dollar (19%), Vietnamese dong (13%), and Chinese yuan (9%) followed.
The currencies with the highest growth rates were the Chinese yuan, Icelandic krona, and Egyptian pound.
The yuan saw its top-up transaction amount increase by more than 120%, with the number of transactions rising more than 2.2 times. The transaction amount for the Icelandic krona rose by 124%, and the Egyptian pound increased by 97%.
Card issuance indicators also showed an upward trend. The issuance of physical cards through smart ATMs increased by more than 120% year-on-year. The total number of cards issued also grew by 10% compared to the same period in the previous month.
