Yeongyang County Holds Countywide Resolution Rally in Hopes of Being Selected as a Pilot Region for Rural Basic Income
On September 30, Yeongyang County held a countywide resolution rally at Yeongyang Public Stadium, expressing the collective wishes of all residents both internally and externally, in hopes of being selected as a pilot region for the Rural Basic Income program.
The rally began with the reading of a statement of purpose, followed by a countywide performance that showcased the unified aspirations of the residents.
The statement, read by Cho Dongman, Chairman of the County Administration Advisory Committee, began with the poignant words, "Emptying homes, darkened shops, the fading laughter of children. Yeongyang now stands on the brink of extinction." It directly addressed the crisis of population decline and aging, and called for the revival of the local community through the Rural Basic Income program, resonating deeply with the residents.
Subsequently, Lee Jaedong, President of the Yeongyang Cheongwoo Association, and Seong Moonki, President of the Yeongyang County Hometown Youth Association, led the chanting of slogans and a countywide performance. Residents raised placards high and, with one voice, shouted, "Yeongyang County is the optimal location," uniting their earnest hopes.
At the end, a large banner was unfurled, symbolically expressing the residents' wishes to the central government and the political community.

County Governor Oh Dochang stated, "The voices of the residents gathered here today reflect our earnest desire to protect the future of Yeongyang. I hope these wishes will be conveyed and that Yeongyang County will be selected as a pilot region for the Rural Basic Income program. The county will continue to prepare with utmost dedication together with the residents."
