Jeollanam-do Accelerates Efforts to Attract BlackRock's Renewable Energy-Based AI Data Center
Solaseado Proposed as Optimal Site with Large-Scale Land and Stable Water Supply
Active Support for Attracting BlackRock Investment and AI Data Center
Jeollanam-do announced its intention to attract the BlackRock AI Data Center to the province, leveraging President Lee Jaemyung's signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with BlackRock, the world's largest asset management company, on September 23 to cooperate across the AI industry. The province emphasized that Jeollanam-do offers an optimal foundation for renewable energy.
BlackRock has declared its ambition to foster Korea as the Asia-Pacific AI hub capital, based on the new administration's AI transformation and renewable energy initiatives. As a core strategy, BlackRock also unveiled plans to build a hyperscale AI data center powered by renewable energy.
Jeollanam-do plans to actively propose Solaseado, which boasts abundant renewable energy resources, a stable water supply, and large-scale land, as the optimal site to realize these plans.
Since February, the province has proactively prepared to establish an AI data center cluster hub, aligning with the government's recent drive to elevate Korea into one of the world's top three AI powerhouses.
Jeollanam-do has identified the attraction of anchor companies to implement the 'RE100 Industrial Complex Special Act' and the establishment of AI data centers as key success factors for the city of the future in energy. Accordingly, the province is determined to make every effort to bring the BlackRock AI Data Center to Solaseado.
To achieve this, Jeollanam-do will actively recommend to the government that it participate directly in the government task force for attracting the AI data center, while also launching full-scale investor relations (IR) activities to promote Solaseado's advantages to BlackRock.
