Visitors can view items such as the chair and cane (Gwejang) bestowed upon Jeong Wonyong of Gyeongsan by the king, a portrait of Jeong Inseung, a Mingqi (burial object) excavated from the tomb of Kim Daedeok, and the Hong Sal (decorative gate) from the house of independence activist Choi Hocheon in Seolwol-ri Village.
In particular, the museum will exhibit, for the first time in the nation, a replica of the portrait of Jeong Wonyong. This portrait was discovered last year at a descendant’s home by curator Shin Sanghun of the Gwangmyeong Cultural Center and, after being donated to the Seoul Museum of History, has never before been shown to the public.
The museum will also display a replica of the signboard “Jeongjo Chinjae Minhwaemyo Sisa Sil Hyeonpan,” a UNESCO Memory of the World artifact. This signboard records that King Jeongjo personally conducted ancestral rites at the tomb of Lady Minhoe, Kang clan, at Yeonghwewon, and is currently housed at the National Palace Museum of Korea.
The museum is open on weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and is closed on weekends and public holidays. Admission is free, and group tours are available by making a reservation with the Gwangmyeong Cultural Center. Visitors can also book a guided tour by a cultural tourism interpreter in advance for a more in-depth explanation of the exhibits.
