Gyeongbuk Province Sets Next Year's Living Wage at 12,049 Won, Up 3.25%... Applies to Provincial Government and Affiliated Organization Workers
Set at 2,518,241 Won Per Month
16.7% Higher Than the Minimum Wage
Gyeongbuk Province has finalized the "2026 Living Wage" at 12,049 won per hour and officially announced it on the 25th.
On September 17, Gyeongbuk Province held the Living Wage Committee to determine the 2026 living wage, deciding to set it at 12,049 won, a 3.25% increase from this year's 11,670 won. This amount is 1,729 won (16.7%) higher than the government-announced minimum wage for next year of 10,320 won, and when converted to a monthly salary (based on 209 hours), it amounts to 2,518,241 won.
The living wage for Gyeongsangbuk-do, which has been finalized and announced this time, will be applied for one year starting January 1 next year. It covers workers affiliated with Gyeongbuk Province as well as those employed by provincial-funded and affiliated organizations.
The Gyeongbuk living wage was established based on the "Gyeongsangbuk-do Living Wage Ordinance," which was enacted and promulgated on January 6, 2022. The final decision is made through a vote by committee members, comprehensively reflecting the minimum wage increase rate, the consumer price inflation rate in Gyeongbuk, and the public servant wage increase rate.
The "living wage" is a policy-driven, social wage established to guarantee workers a certain standard of living. It adds the monetary value of education, culture, housing, and other factors to the minimum wage in order to maintain human dignity and ensure a real, sustainable livelihood.
