KEPCO to Host Cyberattack Defense Training 'ELECCON 2025'
Applications Accepted Until October 2
Expanded Participation Categories and Awards Compared to Last Year
Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) announced on September 24 that it will jointly host the "2025 Practical Cyberattack Defense Training" (ELECCON 2025) with the National Intelligence Service branch to foster cybersecurity professionals and strengthen cooperation in the energy sector.
Now in its fifth year, ELECCON has been held annually since 2021. This year's competition will accept online applications until October 2. The event is divided into four categories: energy organizations, general division, university division, and high school division. This year, the general division has been newly added to provide more opportunities for participation, and the scale of awards for outstanding participants has also been expanded.
The preliminary round will be held online on a designated website on October 22, and eight teams from each category will be selected based on their scores. The finals are scheduled to take place at KEPCO headquarters in Naju, Jeollanam-do, on November 19 and 20. In the finals, 32 defense teams selected from each category will compete in real-time attack and defense training in a virtual environment designed to closely resemble actual energy systems, alongside attack and operations teams organized by the hosts.
During the training, the attack teams will carry out various cyberattacks according to specific scenarios, while the defense teams will detect, block, and recover from these attacks to maintain the stability of operational facilities. Through this process, participants are expected to gain knowledge and experience in responding to cyberattacks in a realistic setting.
Oh Joongseon, Director of Information Security at KEPCO, stated, "ELECCON is not just about solving problems; it is a valuable opportunity for participants to enhance their security capabilities through training in environments similar to real-world scenarios. We look forward to the active participation of outstanding talent."
