Seongju County Election Commission Reports Three Public Officials for Promoting Local Government Head's Achievements and Providing Food to Residents
The Seongju County Election Commission in North Gyeongsang Province reported three public officials affiliated with a local government to the Daegu District Prosecutors' Office, Western Branch, on September 19, on charges of promoting the achievements of the local government head and providing food to attending residents during a community meeting.
According to an official from the Election Commission, between late June and August, these officials allegedly provided food items such as rice cakes, fruit, and beverages to residents attending community meetings held in three townships within Seongju County. They are also accused of making remarks that promoted the achievements of the current local government head during a government performance report.
According to Article 114, Paragraph 1 of the Public Official Election Act (hereinafter referred to as the "Act") (Restriction on Donations by Political Parties and Candidates' Families, etc.), companies, other corporations, organizations, or their executives and employees related to a candidate (including those intending to become a candidate) are prohibited from making any donations related to the relevant election before the election period, and from making any donations for the benefit of the candidate regardless of relevance to the election during the election period.

Furthermore, under Article 85, Paragraph 1 of the Act (Prohibition of Public Officials, etc. from Involvement in Elections), public officials are prohibited from engaging in any activities that may influence an election by abusing their duties or positions. In addition, Article 86, Paragraph 1 of the Act (Prohibition of Acts Influencing Elections by Public Officials, etc.) prohibits public officials from promoting a candidate's achievements to voters in the constituency under any pretext, including education or any other reason.
