Joseon Sunjo Era Royal Banquet Reenacted at Changdeokgung Palace
Performance Based on the Records of the "Sunjo Year of the Rat Jinjacry Uigwe"
The Changdeokgung Palace Management Office of the National Heritage Administration’s Royal Palaces and Tombs Center, in collaboration with the World Ethnic Dance Institute of the Korea National University of Arts Dance School, will hold the "Joseon Sunjo Year of the Rat Yeongyeongdang Jinjacry Restoration Performance" at 11:00 a.m. on September 23 and 24 at Yeongyeongdang in the rear garden of Changdeokgung Palace in Seoul.
Jinjacry is a royal court ceremony in which officials offered alcohol and food to the king to express their respect during auspicious royal occasions. This performance will recreate the banquet held by Crown Prince Hyomyeong in the lunar June of 1828 (the Year of the Rat under King Sunjo) at Yeongyeongdang to celebrate the 40th birthday of his mother, Queen Sunwon, following the records of the "Sunjo Year of the Rat Jinjacry Uigwe."
